Internships

College internships are available at the Oregon Jewish Museum in all areas including Archives, Education, Marketing, and Gallery.  These unpaid internships will add to both your portfolio and resume while at the same time providing a very satisfying experience in a fast-paced, fun environment. Upon request of the student, OJM internships are available for college credit.

Internship availability is based on academic calendar schedule and current Museum needs.

Archives Intern

Portland, OR

The Oregon Jewish Museum seeks a qualified intern to assist in the Archive department with work on a joint project with Portland State University to integrate the OJM collections into the PSU finding aid website. This internship will allow a student to participate in an exciting pilot program aimed at integrating the regions archival holdings and publicizing the unique materials contained within the OJM archive. The OJM intern will work closely over a period of several months with archives professionals on varied projects to gain insight into the workings of the museum archive. Tasks include, but are not limited to: processing archival collections, data entry, digitizing photographic collections, and learning Archon a unified platform for archival description and access. Internship can be extended depending on desire and performance.

Collections and Exhibitions Intern

Portland, OR

The Oregon Jewish Museum seeks a qualified intern to assist in the Collections and Exhibitions departments with work on upcoming exhibitions and ongoing collection acquisitions. OJM interns work closely over a period of several months with museum professionals on varied collections and exhibitions projects to gain insight into the workings of the museum. Tasks include, but are not limited to: visual and newspaper research for exhibition development, reading and abstracting oral histories, cataloging new donations and loans, processing archival collections, data entry, digitizing photographic collections, gallery preparation, and artifact handling. Internship can be extended depending on desire and performance.

Education Intern

Portland, OR

The Oregon Jewish Museum seeks a qualified intern to assist the Program Coordinator with curriculum development. The OJM Education program provides cultural enrichment for young people in an environment that nurtures inquisitive minds. Grounded in the diverse history, art and culture of both the Jews of Oregon and the Jewish experience nationally, educational programs incorporate a wealth of on-site and off-site museum resources providing a dynamic teaching and learning experience for K-12 students. We are currently seeking an intern with an interest in museum education. In close collaboration with the Program Coordinator and the Education Advisor, the intern will work on designing, developing and implementing K-12 curricula that meets and supports state standards in language arts and social studies. Internship can be extended depending on desire and performance.

Media and Marketing Intern

Portland, OR

The Oregon Jewish Museum seeks Marketing/Media interns to work on various projects, including: website, social media, email communications, print materials. Interested individuals should have experience working in some of these areas and knowledge of desktop publishing, graphic design, web software and practices. One individual does not need to possess all skills as we are willing to divide them up. These unpaid internships will add to both your portfolio and resume while at the same time providing a very satisfying experience in a fast-paced, fun environment. Internships are likely to extend depending on desire and performance.
