Tobi Kahn: Avoda -  Objects of the Spirit
February 1 through March 29, 2001

Avoda was a ceremonial arts project created by the painter and sculptor Tobi Kahn. With poetic vision and contemplative curiosity, he created a new vocabulary for Jewish ritual objects. His works reveal the timelessness of nature in its ancient, eternal presence but are also strikingly contemporary in their refusal to allude to familiar and domestic conventions of Judaica. These objects are fashioned not only to be used but to be handed down as embodiments of love and community.
