One
World, One People, an exhibit by renowned photographer Arnold Newman
(1918 2006), is a culmination of portraits he made of significant
Jewish individuals over the course of his career. Spanning six decades
of work, from the early 1940s to the present, this collection
contains public figures, from artists to entertainers, to philosophers
and politicians. Those displayed in the exhibit include: David Ben-Gurion,
Leonard Bernstein, Otto Frank, Golda Meir, and Isaac Stern. In total,
there will be 50 photographs on display.
Arnold
Newman is regarded as one of the most dynamic American photographers.
The exhibit provides visitors with a unique opportunity to view a monumental
body of work that places the most influential Jewish leaders of the
20th century in their own environments. While each portrait by Arnold
Newman reveals its subjects personality in a way no words on paper
ever could, at heart, they are simply fascinating works of photographic
art. This exhibit will be the first chance to see Arnold Newmans
work in Portland since his death in June, 2006.
