Curator's Choice! highlights the best
and the most unusual objects in OJM's collection and includes such
oddities as an electric yortzeit "candle" and such rarities
as a collection of photographs depicting the Yiddish threater of
Sholem Aleichem. A small collection of passports, citizenship papers
and voter registration cards remind visitors about the upcoming
Presidential election. Portland City Commissioner Mildred Schwab's
cocktail dress, Sarah Bloch's wedding dress, letters from composer
Ernst Bloch, and the scrapbook belonging to JCC swim teacher MIckey
Hirschberg bring to life individuals in Oregon's Jewish history.
Significant artworks in the collection, including works by Chaim
Goldberg, Ira Moskowitz, and Jeanne Moment round out the exhibit.
This exhibit also provides a glimpse into the collecting
practices of the museum, helping visitors to understand why we collect
what we do.
The Oregon Jewish Museum is located in downtown
Portland at 310 NW Davis Street. The museum is open Tuesday through
Friday from 11 am to 2 pm, and Sunday from 1 to 4 pm. Regular admission
